Frequently asked questions.

Everything you need to know about our Homer studio, personal training rates, nutrition support, and how Changing Tides compares to Anchor Point Gym.

How do I get started with Changing Tides Fitness?

The first step is always a friendly, no-pressure consultation. You can fill out our contact form or reach out directly at (907) 841-3592. We’ll discuss your goals, training history, current challenges, and schedule to recommend the best coaching path for you.

I haven’t worked out in years (or ever). Is Changing Tides right for me?

Absolutely. A large percentage of our clients are people who have never set foot in a traditional gym or are returning after years away. Every program starts with an initial movement assessment where we evaluate your range of motion, strength baselines, and any old injuries. We move at your pace.

What is the difference between Changing Tides Fitness and Anchor Point Gym?

Changing Tides Alaska Inc. operates both, but they serve different purposes. Changing Tides Fitness is Heidi Cox’s personalized coaching service, private Homer appointment-only training studio, nutrition guidance, and online app coaching. Anchor Point Gym is a 24-hour members-only fitness facility located at 34303 Old Sterling Highway in Anchor Point, equipped with keyless app-based access for independent workouts.

Where is the Homer studio located, and can I drop in?

The Changing Tides Homer Studio is located at 601 E Pioneer Avenue, Suite 214 in Homer, Alaska. To ensure client privacy and focused 1:1 attention, the studio is strictly by appointment only. There are no public drop-ins during private training sessions.

What should I bring to my first in-person training session?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move freely, clean indoor athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. We have all the specialized equipment, resistance bands, TRX systems, free weights, and recovery tools right in the studio.

How does personal training accommodate injuries or physical limitations?

Heidi has over 20 years of experience working closely with physical therapists and functional medicine physicians (such as Dr. Rob Downey at Seaworthy Functional Medicine). We assess your limitations first and design movement regressions that protect healing joints while building strength around them.

Do you give strict meal plans or count every calorie?

No. Rigid meal plans almost never work long-term. Instead, we teach you how to build balanced, high-protein, whole-food meals that fit your lifestyle, budget, and family dinners. You learn principles of portioning, nutrient timing, and sustainable habit changes that last for life.

How does the Changing Tides mobile app work?

Our mobile coaching app (powered by Trainerize) delivers your customized workouts right to your phone. Each exercise includes video demonstrations, prescribed sets/reps, and weight tracking. You can log meals, track daily habits (water, sleep, steps), send Heidi form check videos, and message her directly between weekly check-ins.

Can I do online coaching if I train at home with limited equipment?

Yes! Your 12-week online programming is custom-built around whatever equipment you actually have—whether that’s a full commercial gym, a set of dumbbells in your living room, or bodyweight and resistance bands for travel.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy for studio sessions?

We request at least 24 hours notice for session rescheduling to allow other clients on our waitlist to book that time slot. Please contact Heidi directly via phone, text, or the app to adjust your session.
