Meet Your Coach

Strength built on real life, not perfection.

I’m a lifelong Alaskan and have been working in the health and fitness space for over 20 years. I’m also a wife of 27 years and a mom of two, so I understand firsthand what it looks like to balance family, work, seasonal shifts, stress, and self-care without it feeling like an overwhelming full-time job.

I started "Heidi’s Booty Camp" back in 2006 as a fun, approachable way to get people moving. Over the past two decades, that passion has evolved into Changing Tides Fitness & Nutrition: a holistic, individualized coaching practice that meets people exactly where they are.

The Story Behind The Coaching

My Own Journey With Health & Food

My relationship with food and exercise was not always healthy. Growing up as a competitive figure skater, I faced intense pressure around an "ideal" scale weight. That scrutiny led to years of restrictive eating, followed by secretive binge-eating, constant guilt, and an endless cycle of self-criticism.

When I stepped away from the rink, I realized how distorted my perception had become. I had equated fitness with starvation and endless cardio. It took intentional education, compassionate mentors, and deep reflection to dismantle those old narratives.

“You cannot punish yourself into loving your body, and you cannot hate yourself into sustainable health. True strength comes from nourishment, intelligent movement, and patience.”

Today, whether working with a 30-year-old recovering from knee surgery or a 55-year-old navigating perimenopause, my commitment is the same: to create a safe, supportive space where you can build real capability without guilt, judgment, or unsustainable restrictions.

How We Coach

Our Coaching Philosophy

Six foundational principles that guide every workout, meal plan, and conversation at Changing Tides.

Principle 01

Strength For Living

Strength is not about maxing out a deadlift in a mirror. It is about being capable: carrying fire logs, hauling gear, playing with grandchildren, and moving through your day without fear of back spasms.

Principle 02

Mobility & Joint Longevity

If you cannot move freely through full ranges of motion, lifting heavier weights will only compound compensation. We build resilient joints from the ankles up to the shoulders.

Principle 03

Food As Fuel, Not Penance

Dieting culture has convinced millions that food is something to be feared or earned. We emphasize whole foods, adequate protein, and consistent energy balance that nourishes your life.

Principle 04

Hormone-Aware Adaptability

A woman in perimenopause cannot train the same way a 22-year-old male athlete trains. We adjust intensity, recovery windows, and nutrition around your biology.

Principle 05

Behavior & Mindset

Lasting change happens between your ears first. We dismantle all-or-nothing perfectionism and replace it with repeatable, low-friction habits that survive busy Alaskan weeks.

Principle 06

Recovery Is Where Strength Grows

Grinding yourself to exhaustion every day is a recipe for burnout and injury. We honor sleep, stress management, and active recovery as equal partners in your health.
